November 12th, 2011

Peachtree City, GA

With a trip on the line to the USATF Region III Championship, the XC team showed up in the Georgia Association Championship looking to perform at their highest level this season. Our athletes did not disappoint. We had five Top 10 finishes, four of which were in the Top 6, another 13th place medalist, and an additional Regional Qualifier. For the Girls, Rayevan Freeman turned in the performance of the day with a 4th place finish with a season best 13:07, 34 seconds better than her previous mark! Faith Hill also improved, taking 6th overall with a time of 13:15. Mya Solomon rounded out the Bantam Girls with a 21st place finish (one short of the medalists) in 14:46. In the Youth Girls race, Alexia Wilson gave a heartfelt performance by finishing 9th overall, also with a season best of 16:53. All qualified for the Region II Championship, as the Top 30 move on to Myrtle Beach, site of the championship.

Elijah & Jevon keep pace in the Bantam 3K

On the Boys side, Jevon Leonard came from behind to capture 2nd place overall as the Bantam Boys silver medalist. His time of 12:00 was just 6 seconds away from the victory. Elijah Gray was also in the Top 5 with a 4th place finish, clocking 12:26. Adding himself to the Premier Athletics Medalists was Nasir Muhammad. In the Midget Boys race, he finished 13th with his course best performance of 12:06. And in the Youth Boys race, Sam Wells finished the 4000m competition in 15:49. In probably the most competitive race of the day, Sam finished 39th.

"Overall, we had a great day. Our times are on pace to do the things we want to do in the coming weeks. So our progress is very exciting. We'll continue to prepare and train for a great conclusion to our XC season", says Coach Charles.

Championship Preview?

October 29th, 2011

Peachtree City, GA

On a chili day at the USATF XC Preview meet, our cross country team gave the association a preview of what is to come for the rest of the season. Leading the way for us in the Bantam Girls race was Faith Hill. She finished 5th overall with an impressive time of 13:29. Right behind her was Rayevan Freeman in 6th place finishing in 13:41. Rounding out our Bantam Girls was Mya Solomon finishing 13th in 14:41. Faith and Rayevan finished in the medal count (Top 10) and brought home the hardware for their performances.

In the Midget Boys (11-12 yr old) division, Nasir Muhammad finished 10th place, adding to the Premier Athletics medal count with a personal best performance of 12:11.07 for the 3000m distance. And rounding out our team performances were Alexia Wilson and Sam Wells in the Youth (13-14) division. Alexia finished 5th overall with a personal best of 17:15.59, and Sam just missed the medal recipients, but also finished with a personal best of 15:46.59 for the 4000m race.

"If this is any indication of how we will perform the rest of the season, all our athletes will qualify for the USATF Regional XC Championship and make the trip to Myrtle Beach. I was very happy about they way everybody ran yesterday. It's a great indication of what's to come", said Coach Charles Muhammad.

Alexia Wilson medals at Middle School State XC Championship

Alexia takes 16th in Large School Race

October 22, 2011

Cochran, GA

Premier Athletics made its first trip to Cochran, GA to participate in the Middle School State Cross Country Championship this year. With a small contingent, the athletes did not disappoint. With nearly 1,000 athletes in attendance, three of our own competed and came away with very respectable performances.

Alexia Wilson highlighted the day with a 16th place performance which earned her a medal for the large school girls championship. Samuel Wells and Nasir Muhammad also competed in the large school boys championship. Sam ran a very competitive race and finished 29th, just four places out of the medal count. Nasir finished 119th.

"Very great performance by Alexia. We believe that Alexia is a high school state champion in the making. This race combines what would be three classifications at the high school level. To be already 16th shows that this prediction is justified. Sam also ran great. And although Nasir didn't run as well as we'd like, I'm very impressed with the performance here today", said Coach Muhammad.
