Hill and Solomon lead team in qualifying for USATF Cross Nationals

Faith and Mya qualify for USATF XC Nationals

Nov. 17th, 2012

Fayetteville, GA

In a third trip to Fayetteville, GA this season, the Cross Country team looked to continue the trend of constant improvement throughout this fall season. Needing a Top 20 finish to move on to Nationals, Faith Hill and Mya Solomon led the way for Premier Athletics by qualifying for the trip to New Mexico. Faith Hill turned in another great performance in the Bantam Girls 3000m race by placing 6th with a time of 12:19.89. This is the second year in a row that Faith has placed in the top 6 in the USATF Regional Championship, placing 5th last year.

Mya Solomon also punched her ticket to Nationals with a 14th place finish with a time of 12:35.23. Mya also completed consecutive years in the top 20, improving from 18th last year.

Faith pushes pace early in the race

Gia Wright also finished today with a new personal best, finishing in the top 35 with a time of 12:47.48. "In her first year running track or cross country, Gia has made tremendous progress. We're very proud of her performance today", said Coach Charles Muhammad. Rounding out the team was Lauryn Griggs. Lauryn finished 45th in a time of 14:04.84. Though not her best performance, Lauryn also has produced a great cross country season, after just joining the team in late July. "Lauryn's 3K time for Cross Country has dropped almost three minutes this season, which is tremendous. It should be a great launching pad for her upcoming track season", said Coach Charles.

Next up is the AAU National Cross Country Championship in Rock Hill, SC at Winthrop University. Premier Athletics looks to take five athletes to AAU Nationals on Saturday December 1st.
